Temperature Converter
Convert between Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin and Rankine. The source unit dims in the results so the three output values are easy to read at a glance.
About the Temperature Converter
Convert between Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin and Rankine. The active unit's tile is dimmed so the three output values are easy to read at a glance.
Temperature conversion formulas
°C to °F: (°C × 9/5) + 32. °F to °C: (°F − 32) × 5/9. °C to K: °C + 273.15. K to °C: K − 273.15. Rankine = Kelvin × 9/5.
Reference points: Water freezes at 0°C / 32°F / 273.15 K. Water boils at 100°C / 212°F / 373.15 K (at sea level). Body temperature is approximately 37°C / 98.6°F. Absolute zero is 0 K / −273.15°C / −459.67°F.
Kelvin is the SI unit of thermodynamic temperature and has no degree symbol — it's written as "300 K", not "300°K". Rankine is the absolute temperature scale corresponding to Fahrenheit, used mainly in US engineering.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
°F = (°C × 9/5) + 32. To go the other way: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. Common reference points: 0°C = 32°F, 100°C = 212°F, body temperature is ~37°C = 98.6°F.
What is absolute zero in Celsius and Fahrenheit?
Absolute zero is 0 Kelvin = −273.15°C = −459.67°F. It is the lowest theoretically possible temperature, at which particles have minimum thermal motion.
What is Rankine and when is it used?
Rankine (°R) is an absolute temperature scale that uses the same degree size as Fahrenheit. 0°R = absolute zero. It is used mainly in US engineering thermodynamics and aerospace.
