HTML Tools

HTML to Plain Text

Strip all HTML tags from a document and extract the plain text content. Optionally preserve line breaks from block-level elements and decode HTML entities. Useful for processing scraped content, generating email text versions or feeding content to APIs.

About HTML to Text

Strips all HTML tags from a document and returns the readable text content. Block elements (p, div, h1–h6, li) become line breaks when "preserve line breaks" is on. HTML entities are decoded back to readable characters.

Useful for extracting copy from HTML emails, cleaning scraped content, word-counting a web page, or preparing text for plain-text email alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool decode HTML entities?

Yes — tick the "Decode entities" checkbox and common entities like &, <, > and " are converted to their plain-text equivalents after the tags are stripped.

How does preserve line breaks work?

With preserve lines enabled, block-level tags like <p>, <div>, <h1–h6>, <li>, <tr> and <br> are converted to newlines before stripping. This retains the document structure as paragraph breaks.
