BMR Calculator
Calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation and your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) based on your activity level. Supports metric and imperial units.
About the BMR Calculator
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs at complete rest to maintain basic functions — breathing, circulation and cell repair. This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is more accurate than the older Harris-Benedict formula for most adults.
Mifflin-St Jeor equation
Male: BMR = (10 × weight kg) + (6.25 × height cm) − (5 × age) + 5.
Female: BMR = (10 × weight kg) + (6.25 × height cm) − (5 × age) − 161.
TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) multiplies BMR by an activity factor: 1.2 for sedentary up to 1.9 for very active. This estimates how many calories you need per day to maintain your current weight.
These are estimates only — individual metabolic rates vary by genetics, body composition and health. Consult a dietitian or doctor before making significant dietary changes.
Frequently asked questions
What is BMR?
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs at complete rest to maintain basic functions like breathing, circulation and cell repair. It's the floor of your daily calorie needs.
What is TDEE?
Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is your BMR multiplied by an activity factor. It estimates how many calories you actually burn in a day given your exercise habits. Eating at TDEE maintains your current weight.
Which BMR formula does this use?
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation, published in 1990. It is considered more accurate than the older Harris-Benedict equation for most adults. Male: BMR = (10 × kg) + (6.25 × cm) − (5 × age) + 5. Female: BMR = (10 × kg) + (6.25 × cm) − (5 × age) − 161.
